Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year to you! I know that 2013 was a year of highs and lows for many of us, both personally and professionally.

Personally, I would have to say my high was spending time with the people I love the most. I've met many friends through diving here in St. Thomas. Many welcomed me into their homes last year as I traveled for business, many have been welcomed into mine.

My personal low would be the loss of my mother in June.

Professionally it is very hard to choose the high. I flew to Nashville many times to record songs for "Life's a Beach" and I must tell you I absolutely love working in the studio! It is such a rush to hear my songs spring to life through the talents of skilled craftsmen.

The surprise of the year professionally was when I was asked to perform for the cast and crew of ABC Television's night time drama 'Nashville'! This show took an unexpected turn when the key grip was diagnosed with cancer and quickly became a fundraiser for he and his family. As the news spread across the set, members of the cast asked if they could perform to help our effort. We soon outgrew the planned venue and had to find another large enough to handle the crowd. All in all, we raised $16,500 in four short hours.

I wish you the best this year. I hope your dreams come true often. I hope your heart seldom breaks.

NSAI's "One to Watch"

I am very proud to say that my song "I'm Not The Man in the Moon" has gotten the attention of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and earned me recognition as "One to Watch" in 2013!

The single "I'm Not The Man in the Moon" will be released digitally January 1, 2014. Look for it at your favorite online music store!

Here's the final line-up!

Stars from ABC's "Nashville" to join me on stage!

Do I need to tell you how jazzed I am about this Saturday's show at the Soulshine Pizza Factory in Nashville? If you've been watching my facebook posts this week, then you've watched it all unfold.

For you that haven't been looking at my facebook page, let me catch you up to speed. Last month I was asked if I would like to do a show here in Nashville. The gal that asked me this is the Production Supervisor for ABC's "Nashville". I was intriqued until she told me she would pack the joint with members of the show's cast and crew. I told her that sounded like a wonderfully frightning experience and I would have to pass on it. A couple days later I flew to California.

I was riding my motorcycle from the northern Sierra's down to Los Angeles, thinking about the offer. First I thought maybe I'd hire another guitarist and we could do the show as a duo. Then I thought why not see if I could get my studio guys together and really do it up right.

I made a couple phone calls, and next thing you know I had a band. I let my producer friend know what I was planning, and a couple days later flew home to St. Thomas for a few days before returning to Nashville.

When I arrived here in Nashville and got myself set up in her spare room she told me that a crew member had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She asked if I would think about taking my show and making it a fund raiser for the crew member and his family, I thought it was a great idea!

Over the past two days, one at a time, some of the cast members from the television series let us know they would like to help out by performing at my show! goes...

Performing with me at the Soulshine Pizza Factory on Division Street in Nashville this Saturday October 26th starting around 5:00 pm will be Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne), Chris Carmack (Will Lexington), Jonathon Jackson (Avery Barkley), and for us guys... Clare Bowen (Scarlett O'Connor)!!!

So, NOW do you see why I'm so jazzed? I know, right?

It is a fund raiser, so we are requesting a $20 donation at the door. 100% of the money raised will go to the crew members family. I'm not mentioning his name  in this blog out of respect for the family's privacy.

We will start  around 5:00 and keep everything going until about 7:00. This event is open to the public, and families are welcome.

Be sure to stick around afterwards. The Midnight Riders take the stage from 9:00 until closing!!!

Oh! I almost forgot! I'll be debuting four new songs from my next album. Come get a sneek peek!!!

Nashville Trip

This certainly has been one amazing visit to Nashville! I've been here for over three weeks now. The main reason I came here this time was to start recording songs for my next CD which I did this past week. I absolutely love working with Kenny Royster of Direct Image Studio. Not only is he great at the board but he also is a fantastic vocal coach.

We started tracking Monday morning with top session players David Francis, Dennis Michael Wage, Dennis Holt, John D. Willis, Pat Buchanan, and Jim Hoke. These guys really nailed the sound I was looking for, and adding Jim's harmonica to the mix really brought the tracks to a new level.

As a songwriter I can tell you that there is little that compares to hearing your songs come to life in the hands of the masters! The guys laid tracks on four songs.

I'll talk more about them in my next blog. till then...Calm Seas my friends!!!
